Anton J. Gunn is a nationally recognized leadership development and healthcare reform expert. He works with healthcare organizations
who want to advance patient care, increase productivity and quality outcomes by developing Presidential Leadership practices. He is the
Founder of the 937 Strategy Group, LLC, a coaching, consulting and strategy firm that provides professional development services public and private sector organization. Previously, he served as a senior official in the Obama Administration as the Director of External Affairs at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), where he
advised President Barack Obama and Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on public engagement strategies to introduce Main Street to the Affordable Care Act. Anton was also a 2014 Resident Fellow at the Institute of Politics at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Anton is also a former state legislator from South Carolina, with more than 20 years of public policy, advocacy and executive leadership experience in the healthcare & human service arena. He has provided hands-on direction of high-level government and non-profit initiatives. Anton possesses a strong public presence and the ability to positively influence, train and coach staff, managers, business leaders and other stakeholders toward organizational goals. built on service, empowerment, and legacy, Anton is often recognized for his excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, as well as his vision, commitment, business acumen, and astute negotiation abilities. He also has built a well respected and proven
track record in radio, television, print media, social media and in front of live audiences both domestically and internationally. Anton has been recognized in the Huffington Post as one of the Top 50 Progressive Activists Who Are Changing America.
As Director of External Affairs, Anton served as the principal advisor for developing and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders for HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on healthcare reform.
Anton represented the Secretary in direct official dealings with national, state, and local external organizations. His chief responsibility was to develop and manage a proactive strategy with medical providers and public health associations; opinion leaders; trade associations;
disease-specific groups, businesses, and labor groups; advocacy organizations; foundations; African American, Latino, LGBT, Women, & Business groups; and other non-governmental entities who had an interest in healthcare reform. Anton provided leadership and guidance
for public engagement activities within HHS’ 17 Staff and Operating Divisions. He also provided guidance and strategy on outreach efforts to the White House for all matters related to healthcare reform implementation, as well as serving as the senior HHS liaison to the White House Office of Public Engagement.
